Anna Schneider is recognised as one of the most renowned experts in Italian Ampelography. She is Full Professor of Ampelography at the Faculty of Agriculture, as part of the degree in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Turin, and since 1982 works as a researcher at the Centre for genetic improvement and biology of the vine (nowadays the Institute of Plant Virology) of the National Research Council, where she carries out research relating to genetic selection, the characterisation of vine varieties and the development of methods of ampelographic research.
She has coordinated or participated to numerous research and experimental programmes (regional, national and international) on the subject of recovery, safeguard, characterisation, evaluation and valorisation of the germoplasm of wild and cultivated Vitis vinifera. She is a member of the group of experts of MIPAF at the OIV and the International Institute for Plant Genetic Resources, as part of the Vitis Working Group. In addition, she is responsible for the collection vineyards found at Grinzane Cavour, oriented towards minor cultivars, which are rare and at risk of abandonment.
Giusi Mainardi studies the historic, agricultural and symbolic relations that pertain to the world of the vine and wine.
She is the author of numerous books and articles published in important specialised journals and in the OICCE Times, the oenological magazine of which she is the director since 1999.
She is a lecturer on the history of food, the vine and wine at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Turin and collaborates in master’s degrees, courses and seminars.
She is the coordinator of the series Fonti per la Storia dell’Enologia for Edizioni OICCE in collaboration with the Casa Editrice Dell’Orso and of the series Storia della vite e del vino in Italia for the Italian Academy of the Vine and Wine.
She is a history consultant for short films and documentaries on the subject of oenology; speaker at national and international conferences; organiser of events that introduce wine and its history. She also coordinates the study group of OICCE Valorisation of Italian Vitiviniculture.
Stefano Raimondi, oenologist and specialist in Viticulture and Oenology, has for years collaborated with Anna Schneider at the Institute of Plant Virology of the CNR of Grugliasco (Turin), and is responsible for historical aspects and classification of the vine cultivars and the management of the collection vineyard at Grinzane Cavour. Thanks to the experience he gained in the field, he holds courses of wine variety recognition to technicians and students. He is the author of numerous publications in national and international journals and is the author and co-author of informative publications on vine cultivars.
